Ted Case

PIANO

Growing up in Portland, OR, Ted began classical studies on piano at age 5. In middle school, a passion for other styles of music began to consume him, and he began studying jazz in high school with Randy Porter, Thara Memory, and Alan Jones.

In 2010 Ted moved to Los Angeles to study jazz piano on full scholarship at the University of Southern California. There, he enjoyed the Thornton School of Music's wide array of course offerings: composition lessons from Vince Mendoza, jazz piano instruction from Alan Pasqua, classical piano lessons under Bernadene Blaha, and popular music recording classes with Patrice Rushen.

Since graduating in 2014, Ted has settled into a satisfying musical life of freelance performance, teaching, and original music projects. A position with Young Musicians Foundation has given him the opportunity to hone his expertise as a teacher. Freelance work has helped him develop a repertoire as a keyboardist in many styles, including jazz, soul, R&B, and pop. As a songwriter and arranger, Ted led 8-piece ensemble Purple Crayon through a year of recording and performing. Currently, he's hard at work writing, arranging, recording and mixing an album of original music, expecting release in summer 2016.
