Brian Havey

PIANO

Los Angeles native Brian Havey started playing piano at the age of 15 and has been immersed ever since. Though well-versed in many musical styles, Brian spends most of his time exploring creative improvised music and composition. When he's not in his studio composing music & designing sounds for indie video games, the accomplished pianist performs throughout the U.S. and Europe, and nerds out building software synthesizers & generative music algorithms that create music on the fly. As a recording artist, Brian has released over half a dozen albums and EPs, including jazz & electronic music.


As a teacher, Brian is focused on teaching strong fundamentals that emphasize reading and good rhythm, with the ultimate goal of teaching students, young or old, musical self-reliance. While a bit no-nonsense, Brian has a growing library of custom arrangements and exercises he gives students of all levels to not only help them grow musically but maintain interest.


Brian holds three music degrees, including a Masters degree from California Institute of the Arts. Brian is the current keyboardist for Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.
