Kathryn Shuman

VOICE

Kathryn Shuman is a versatile vocalist, synthesist (synthesizer player!), and composer based in Los Angeles. As an actively involved artist in the LA creative music community, she frequently performs original music with many different bands and vocal groups. Kathryn has performed with opera companies including The Industry, and is also currently an auxiliary chorister for the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Kathryn has been singing since she can remember, and has always enjoyed exploring the flexibility of the human voice. She performs and writes music that stems from a love of communication, and an open embracement of individuality. Kathryn is experienced in performing and teaching many different genres— anywhere from contemporary classical with extended techniques, to soul, funk and North Indian classical singing. She has performed internationally in places including St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, and various cathedrals, churches and festivals in Florence, Berlin, Wales, Canada, and Ireland. She has also sung at many prominent venues including The Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Monterey Jazz festival, The Troubadour, REDCAT, Segerstrom Hall, Art Share L.A. and others.

Kathryn earned an MFA degree in Voice Performance at California Institute of the Arts May 2016, and a BM degree in Voice at Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB in 2014. With 7 years of music teaching experience, Kathryn aims to inspire each of her students to find passion and enjoyment in music, while honing technical skills to be able to encourage constant growth.
