Marylin Winkle

CELLO

Dr. Winkle believes fiercely in the power of the arts to affect lives and create change. She has over a decade of teaching experiences with students of all ages and disciplines. Her community engagement efforts have included founding SJSU’s Young Musicians’ Project (YMP), working with the USC Thornton Outreach Program, and is now a Music Teacher for Long Beach Harmony Project, all programs which provide at-risk youth with affordable music instruction. She is delighted to be on faculty at the Rhodes School of Music where she teaches cello lessons and coaches chamber music. Beyond teaching, Marylin is the Artistic Director of L.A. Camerata, a performing arts initiative devoted to works for and by women and “others” marginalized throughout history. She holds a DMA in Early Music from USC Thornton School of Music, where she studied baroque cello and viola da gamba with Bill Skeen (Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Voices of Music) and performed with the Thornton Baroque Sinfonia and Collegium Workshop Ensemble. She received her Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from San José State University, where she studied with David Goldblatt (San Francisco Symphony Orchestra), and she completed her BM in Cello Performance at Stetson University under the instruction of David Bjella (Co-Principal Cellist of IRIS Chamber Orchestra).
